Rivers Alliance of CT - Connecticut's United Voice for River Conservation
Rivers Alliance of Connecticut is the only statewide nonprofit dedicated to protecting and enhancing Connecticut’s rivers, streams, and watersheds. We promote and support environmentally sound state policies, assist the state’s many watershed and river groups, and educate the public about the importance of water conservation and aquatic habitats. We are a membership-based nonprofit corporation founded in 1992. Our 600 members include 100 organizations.
Project Search - WATER QUALITY MONITORING (and more) FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS
Project SEARCH is a water quality monitoring and aquatic studies program for high schools. It was designed to effect systemic change in the teaching of science and mathematics. From 1994 through 1999, the project was been funded by a $1.5 million teacher enhancement grant from the
National Science Foundation
, administered through the
Science Center of Connecticut
(SCC) and the
Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection
(CT DEP). The Science Center has recently changed its name to The Children's Museum of Connecticut.
SCSU Center for Coastal and Marine Studies (CCMS)
Southern Connecticut State University is located centrally along the heavily urbanized Connecticut coastline proximate to a variety of diverse natural habitats. This setting provides excellent opportunities for research and education focused on the pressures of human development and the need for the preservation of these natural habitats. The efforts of the faculty, staff and students associated with the Center for Coastal and Marine Studies (CCMS) at Southern Connecticut State University focus on coastal and marine research and education along Connecticut's urbanized coast and harbors. The CCMS provides a means for faculty and students from throughout the Connecticut State University System to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research and education projects.
